Happy Labor Day!

Just a quick post today to wish y’all a happy labor day!

Labor Day has its roots in the labor movement of the late 19th century. The idea for a day to recognize the labor movement and the achievements of workers was first proposed by Peter J. McGuire, a labor union leader and co-founder of the American Federation of Labor. In 1882, McGuire and other labor activists organized a parade in New York City to promote worker solidarity and advocate for better working conditions. The event was a success and became an annual tradition, with other cities soon following suit.

The idea of a national holiday to recognize workers gained momentum, and in 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a bill making Labor Day a national holiday. However, some controversy surrounded the holiday’s origins, with some people claiming that it was actually proposed by Matthew Maguire, another labor union leader. The true origins of the holiday remain somewhat disputed, but what is clear is that Labor Day was born out of a desire to honor and support the working people who helped build America.

Here’s hoping! In the meantime, this is also my first announcement that I’m participating in a charity online bake sale starting September 10. Details are online and more info including a blatant plea for bids will be coming soon.
